We all love out equine partners. If we didn’t we would not be spending the enormous amount of money that we do on them.
This weekend I chose to make that my focus. Bacardi’s well-being. Starting on Friday I decided that I was going to make myself a detailed breakdown of his macros+micros in his concentrate feed (as I do not have them for his forage + pasture) and compare them to the recommended target for a horse of his specifications as recommended by the National Research council.
After spending many hours completing this table, Bacardi was also scheduled for a massage. It went fabulously. A trusted friend came out and did some bodywork and education with us and we made AMAZING progress. Visible changes. It was mindblowing. Additionally, as part of the education she imparted on me, she gave me a strong encouragement to put Bacardi on an amino acid supplement to assist with rebound of his muscles after work and assist in muscle building. This had never been something I had thought of, simply because “building muscle” has never been a huge goal of ours. Of course I want to get him fit and athletic, but the idea of helping that along with a supplement never really occured to me.
However, after my friend left, I promptly made my way to the local co-op and picked up the Purina SuperSport supplement and I am VERY excited to see the affects of this supplement.
Furthermore, I am very excited to go out and ride with my boy after work today and see how much better he feels and if he is any more balanced in his movement. I feel like we have made a step in the right directions.
Happy Riding and Horse Care,
