As we are half way through September, I am taking some time to think over our goals for the last 3 months of the year. Having heavy smoke in our area the last almost two weeks has really put a damper on forward progress as has adult life. We were planning (for the second year in a row) to go to the Ride for the Roses, which is our annual TB show in our state. For the SECOND year in a row, we have to cancel that plan.
In addition to working a full time job and training an OTTB, I am also a caregiver for my SO through the state and in order to do that I have to finish a 70hr HCA (home care aide) course. I was scheduled to be finished by June, and got ONE class in before everything was cancelled because of COVID-19. So now I am having to do a lot of this training after work in the month of October including the day of the show. Which does not allow me to train adequately or go to RftR.
So right now our goals are being adjusted for the rest of the year. Also we have our new mare coming home in a couple weeks as well. Over winter we will work on the following:
- Getting Ruffi fit; first by lunging the first three weeks and then working on some light walk/trot work
- Working with Bacardi on getting confident over fences
- Getting myself more confident over bigger looking fences
- Potentially moving up to 2’3″ or 2’6″ jumps
What are your goals going into the winter months?
Happy Riding and Reflecting!
