It has been a little while since I updated here. Things have been super crazy around our little home. I have been working close to full time as well as been training to get my Home Care Aide certification. Consequently, I have not been able to spend a lot of time with my equine babies. And when I do its a 10-15 minute ride on B at 10pm and a little ground work with miss Ruffles.
The last couple weekends, Bacardi and I have been able to get out on cool weekend morning and take in the beautiful PNW landscapes around our farm with our new friends Bailey and Sawyer (who we lovingly call “Soy Sauce”). Bacardi has had a STELLAR attitude riding out on these exursions, despite it being a bit chilly and not being in regular work. I am very proud of the good equine citizen he is becoming.
Today we faced down a rooster pheasent and a buck on our trail ride and he was SUCH A GOOD BOY. He started at the rooster, but stayed a safe mount, and then didn’t even bat an eyelash at the buck. The sheer amount of pride I have had in my boy lately is astounding.
Also, I have made a decision that once Miss Ruffles has a good foundation, she is going to be my low level dressage mount. Nothing crazy, but I have a goal of her making her debut next year at the Ride for the Roses show.
Also, since being home, she has seen our entire care team including our bodyworker, farrier, and vet, who gave his seal of approval on the newest addition to our clan.
We are also making a slight adjustment to our care team. While our farrier has been AMAZING, we are making the decision to go in a slightly different direction simply because we understand that our equines are not necessarily the BEST behaved horses all the time. We respect that our farrier’s body is their livlihood and do not want to put them in situation where the are uncomfortable or feel unsafe.
Hopefully, with finishing up my training next week, I will have more frequent updates for my readers 🙂 Thank you to everyone who follows me here and my amature training of my ponies.
Happy Trails!
