So back on the 30th, when the vet was out for fall shots and a quick exam on Miss Ruffles, he also recommended getting her teeth done ASAP. When I got on her the next few times, she seemed uncomfortable and unwilling to go forward, so I decided to give her a week and half off until after her dental was done.
So on the 12th Dr. Renner came back out again and saw my big black mare, floated her teeth and we made a plan for spring to assess both horses’ mouthes to see about getting them on the same dental schedule.
So Friday after miss mare was feeling better, I hopped on her for a 10 minute walk ride and immediately I felt the difference. She had stopped diving into the bridle and then backing up from the discomfort in her mouth. I was very pleased with the ride and it was, what I felt, the first really successful ride I had on her.
Last night I decided I wanted to ride her again. She seemed a little spacey and disrespecful on the ground, so I lunged her first. She was super responsive when going to the left, but when asking her to canter to the left, we had some tantrums and a bit of disrespectful behavior ie. turning to the left, and a couple rears as well.
Afer we ended lunging on a good note, I jumped on her a second time and again, could not have been more pleased. We did lot of serpentines to get her listening and circles to just get her limber and used to working on a round shape.
I am hoping in the next week or so we can start some light trot work and really starting to ramp up her fitness. I think we need to start working on her right lead departured from the ground and may need to wait until we have access to the new out door, or take her down to the round pen on a weekend during the day and really encourage her to get it and keep it.
Over all I am super excited for her future and what she may do 🙂
Happy Riding
