Well…maybe not quite, but they do make life a LOT easier. And finally we have some.
So first things first, Ruffi had her vet appointment on Thursday. If you do not reall or don’t read regularly, a few weeks back, Miss Ruffles started presenting with some pretty significant back pain. We had our body worker out and determined that it was really something that needed a vet consultation.
After a preliminary examination our vet indicated that A. she had pretty sore fee and B. that the pain in her back was its own issue and not one of compensation. At that point we elected to do x-rays.
Her feet showed that she in fact, did have rather thin soles and they were HALF of what they “should” be. Her back x-rays were a different story. Unfortunately, they showed that Ruffi has kissing spines. Preston and I went home that night and did a significant amount of research and came up with a game plan. We put her on Equioxx starting Thursday evening and we are going to re-evaluate her pain in 2 weeks. With that saying, regardless, we are going to pursue mesotherapy for her. This is a kind of treatment modality that involves microinjections into the middle layer of her skin that stimulates nerve function to assist with her back pain. It has shown to be one of the most effective treatments for kissing spine. We are very cautiously optimistic about her future.
The second round of answers that have alleviated some of my stress came today. I have had some feedback recently from people that did not believe my saddle fit Bacardi. It was very disheartening and stressful because unfortunately my budget does not really have room for a new saddle, with the purchase of my Stubben recently. In effort to have some professional feedback to stave off the unsolicited advice, I decided to have my saddle fitter out today.
She did a tracing of Bacardi’s back and evaluated the fit of both my CWD and Stubben and additionally a saddle I took on trial that I had previously been eyeballing. Thankfully she found that both saddles fit my horse in good order with minimal auxilliary items needed for comfort ie half pads.
So all in all we have some good news and answers that have good outlooks going forward. All is well here at WDE.
Happy Riding!
