Vindication is a Sweet, Sweet Thing

You know as an adult, you try to take the high road and not be petty. Even when when you were right and someone was wrong.

I was told recently by a professional that my tack did not fit my horse and that in the opinion of a favored saddle fitter of theirs, that my brand of saddle would not hold up to the discipline I have chosen to do. To me, it felt sanctimonious and pushy and ultimately ended the professional equine relationship between us.

First things first, saddles can be a very personal thing, and things like style and comfort can have a VAST effect on preference. I would never deign to tell someone that a piece of equipement wouldn’t hold up. Especially if that person put 4 figures into the purchase of said equipment (in case you couldn’t tell, I am bitter).

Secondly, I carefully curate my own team of care professionals for my horses and that includes my saddle fitter, who is no spring chicken when it comes to understanding the fit of tack on a horse. So when my saddle fitter came out and assessed the fit of my tack last week, I was beyond thrilled when she told me that my saddle fit my horse and that she actually preferred the fit on Bacardi to the fit of a trial saddle I had picked up at Olson’s. She took my saddle for a few updates to secure the fit and comfort, but overall, she was pleased.

So all this is to say that instead of reaching out to the professional and telling them they were wrong. I am going to instead revel in smug vindication instead.

Happy Riding!
