Well today marks one year since we decided to bring home our amazing Ruffi. And what a year it has been.
When we initially met Ruffi on August 1st 2020, she was a bit of a question mark. We weren’t sure we wanted a mare. And so when I initially threw my leg over and promptly ended up in the dirt, initially people in my circle were like “okay scratch her off your list.” However, we weren’t so sure. We had really liked her personality on the ground and clearly the aforementioned tossing was a pain response.
We talked with Jen and decided we would give her some time. Let her get some body work done and come out 3 weeks later. So on August 23rd (one year ago today) we went back out. I tentatively threw my leg over again. And had a pretty successful ride on Miss Ruffles. And that day, we decided we would take her home. We had a few things to work out so we decided around the end of September.
September 26th 2020, we went with our barn manager Lynsey and picked up our new mare. She stepped on the the trailer like a champ and rode the entire 2 hours home with no issue.
Since that day we have gone through a bit. She had weight to lose. She had a Kissing Spine diagnosis. We have dealt with some referred pain and behaviors because of the diagnosis. She is a very sensitive mare and so any time she isn’t feeling it, she will let us know. Its been quite a roller coaster ride.
But if you asked me if I would go back to a year ago today and would I change my mind? My answer would be not in a million years.

Happy Trails,
