That’s a Wrap on 2021!

Man, where did this year go!?!?!? I can’t believe its over already and MAN what a year it was. The best thing I like about having a blog, especially for my horses, is it actually gives me a written record of my goals and I can go back and see which goals I achieved, which I attempted and which I need to review. So lets start there shall we?

Last years goals:

  1. I would love to start jumping courses with Bacardi now that we have our outdoor arena.
  2. I really would like to gain more confidence on Ruffi. She is SO SWEET on the ground and I truly adore her; but her unpredictability makes me nervous
  3. I want to start having regular lessons with a consistent trainer.
  4. I want to go cross country schooling this year
  5. I WANT to go to Ride for the Roses!

So where did we land?

  1. Bacardi and I really did well on starting to jump courses this year. It was nice even when we had just a few jumps in the outdoor. In March we entered a virtual show and jumped a course. During the summer we had LOTs of jumps out in our jump field and got to create our own courses. I would consider this ACCOMPLISHED.
  2. My relationship with Ruffi has grown in LEAPS AND BOUNDS this year. A lot was helped after we got her kissing spine diagnosis and were able to help her through her pain. We were able to trail ride out once or twice. Started trotting. Started ground poles and even attempted a canter. Goal 2 ACCOMPLISHED
  3. OOft this goal didn’t go over as well as I hoped. I did try. I tried out a trainer that ultimately wasnt a good fit and then tried out another who I LOVED! It was more of just a financial thing. We will continue to attempt this goal in the new year.
  4. Nope didnt get to do that. But we did try our hands at some XC obstacles this year which was fun.
  5. YES! FINALLY AFTER THREE YEARS! We made this goal happen and it was AMAZING. If you missed it, you can read all about it HERE

Well I would call this a success. Lets say 65% complete for the year? Not to shabby! So what are the goals for this year?

  1. Attend a couple of derbies with Bacardi this year
  2. XC schooling in this year
  3. Take Ruffi to her first show
  4. Work on jumping 2’3″- 2’6″ with Bacard
  5. More ride time for Ruffi

We had a lot of amazing milestones this year too. Mine and Bacardi’s first show. Our first RftR. Our first high point. Our first competitive outing. Our first ribbons. Ruffi has come a very long way. This time last year, we were still struggling to get her comfortable and didn’t know what was wrong. Now we know she has KS. Now we have a saddle that fits her. There has been IMMENSE progress with both horses and I cannot be MORE thrilled. I am so looking to next year.

We also have a small change coming to Winter Dance Eventers.

Stay tuned.
