We Have Some Answers

Hey All,

I know that I have had a lot of people reach out and be invested in what’s going on with B. First I want to say thank you to everyone who has taken an interest, reached out, told me they want to know what happened at the vet appt, and everyone in between. Truly, your support and caring means the world to me.

So anyways, in my last post, I let y’all know that his appointment was supposed to be on the 30th, but it got moved back to today since I was going to be off work. We got to the barn bright and early (little too early on a day off if you ask me) to get B out of his stall and dusted off and on the lunge line for a few minutes.

Today we put the lameness locator on him to start with. He was a little up after 3 weeks of stall rest so the vet gave him a little something to take off the edge. Initial eval trotting in a straight line and both directions on the lunge showed no glaring lameness.

Dr. Renner then had me tack him up and get on him. We trotted around the arena circles and straight lines and he expressed not seeing true lameness. He was seeing him stiff to the right but not any true lameness. We then double checked the lameness locator and Dr. R confirmed no lameness.

I made sure to ask Dr. R if he felt that I was causing the issue with being a larger rider and he expressed belief that even if he rode Bacardi, the stiffness and issue would still be present.

So the verdict was no lameness today. The plan is to start working him walk/trot under saddle while continuing the stall/small paddock rest and then after 4 weeks to begin canter work. In total he recommended 6 weeks more of stall rest before going back out to the pasture, just to be on the safe side. Dr. Renner also gave me some ace, just in case Bacardi is a little up before I get in the saddle. He also wants me to have my chiro out soon and make sure I’m doing stretches with B.

So that’s the plan going forward. Stall rest while beginning work under saddle at the walk/trot for the next 4 weeks and then another 2 weeks of stall rest while adding canter work. He also gave me the clear to ride aside!

So there is the update. If you have questions, please ask! Happy to get other views and ideas also.

Happy healing,

A+B
