Rehab Week 1

Hey all!

Just some updates from B and me with our first week back under saddle together. Last Saturday we had our first real ride back together and I will say B was a little hot. We did elect to ace him, just to get back into the swing of things. We just did a little bit of walking to get into the swing of things. We also ended up taking a little walk out to the pumphouse and back where we ran into a killdeer and its eggs!

Monday night after work we went out again. Worked on some outside bend to inside bends, halts, turn on the forehand and leg yields all at the walk.

Tuesday night we finally got into the outdoor arena for the first time in a while. I took some time to reschool the aids for a right-hand circle and moving the shoulder out and coming on to the bit. We worked on trying to get a slower and more controlled trot instead of going mach4, and we worked more on halts and leg yields.

Bacardi got Wed – Friday off. Saturday we held a birthday party for Bacardi and his best buddy Trooper since their birthdays are about 8 days apart. Before he got his birthday cake, we did tack up for a quick 10-minute ride just to keep us in good working form.

Sunday morning I had my first lesson since January! It was amazing. I really don’t know where I would be without my coach. She was able to give us some good things to work on while we are rehabbing. She really wants us to work on slowing down the walk, being more responsive to downward transition aids (walk and halt), and more responsive to getting ourselves rebalanced. We also worked on some haunches in exercises for suppling.

Today Bacardi had chiro and Dr. Rathbone indicated that there were no red flags, just a few subluxations that weren’t out of the blue considering the issues we have had.

Bacardi and I will get back under saddle tomorrow and apply some of those new exercises and goals to our ride.

Happy Rehabbing,

A+B
