Hey y’all! Even while being gone Sat – Wed of the 5th week of Bacardi’s rehab, he still got in some good work!
Tuesday I was informed that his dad was kind enough to saddle him up and walk/trot him around while I was out of town.
Thursday was back to work. We were back to cantering and really had a breakthrough on balancing ourselves in the downward transitions. There will be more of this kind of work to come!
Friday I took the day for myself because truthfully I was just EXHAUSTED from my trip (which I am still going to post a blog about by itself), going back to work Thursday, and my intensive ride on Thursday.
However, after my rest Friday I did ride both Saturday and Sunday (updates will be in the week 6 blog), and both of our horses ran at Emerald on Sunday! It was a great time. After a quick ride at the barn around 12:45, Preston and I left for the track to be there by the 3rd race. Thankfully traffic was good and we actually were able to catch race two before heading down to the paddock for race 3.
Scatalicious, our 3yo bay filly was set to run in Sunday’s 3rd race, which was a $25000 claiming race for 3yo fillies, non-winners of two races lifetime. She was up against some decent competition in this 5-furlong race. She sat off the pace through the backstretch and was able to rally for 3rd lace and edge out the betting favorite for a solid 3rd despite her jock losing the stick at the top of the stretch.
Warren’s Memorable, our 5yo chestnut mare did not fare as well. WM was entered in a 5 furlong $8000 claiming race for fillies and mares 3 yo and up non-winners of three races lifetime. She was bumped fairly hard at the break and was shuffled back while she regained her footing and balance. Despite the bump, she was able to regain her footing and if we had a longer race the outcome may have been different.
The girls will have a couple-day lay-up after their races and then will go back to training. This was both their first starts on this track, so we are relatively content with their showing this weekend. We did take a couple of minutes to go back to the barn and tell our girls how well they ran and give them smooches and love.
Next weekend we have our annual orientation which we will attend, but will not have horses running likely for another few weeks. I will keep everyone updated on Bacardi’s last week of rehab and our further goals.
Happy Riding, Racing, and Rehabbing
