Ahhh Week 6. Rehab is finally over. We are still going to take things a bit cautiously. Work on the flat for the next couple weeks still, while he gets used to being out in a pasture again and building up his strength and we will start from the ground up. Poles, X-rails, and then verticals and move up from there.
But here is a recap of week 6 rehab.
Saturday we were gonna try out the side saddle but B was far too anxious after his farrier appointment so we elected to ride in our jump saddle and work on our left bend, picking up the correct lead to the left.
Sunday was a quick ride before going to the track, we worked on downward transitions.
Monday was an incomplete ride. It was hot and I was cranky and didn’t want to take my temper out on B.
Tuesday we worked on poles, collection, balance, halts, and downward transitions.
Friday evening we made it out late and I was able to get in my side saddle and have my first actual ride on B schooling side saddle. Getting him and I used to the difference in balance and feel.
Saturday – rehab was technically over, but we had a great lesson with our trainer Jenny where we worked on not letting him collapse his left, side, a few trot poles, and working him to supple on both sides.
Overall this has been quite a journey and I’m still super nervous he is going to come up lame again since we never found a direct cause. I will continue to work with him on stretching after rides and once we get our replacement cold laser, go back to his acupressure points.
Thanks for following along.
Happy Riding,
A+B
