Hey all, it’s been a bit of a hot minute since I gave y’all an update on the equine kiddos! Ruffi’s feet are doing better. She is still on limited/small turnout so that she’s not putting undue pressure on her feet and allowing them to heal more. Bacardi and I are finally in a weekly lesson program and things are RAPIDLY improving! We are so excited.
However, the biggest update is that the kids have been reunited! On the first of May, we moved Ruffi from our trainer’s barn, due to a variety of reasons, to Stanwood Equestrian where Bacardi has been since August of 2023. They are stalled next to one another and can even stick their heads up and touch noses. I think this has been excellent for Ruffi, since she is known to be a bit of an anxiety bean. So having a horse she trusts that is fully relaxed in the environment is a HUGE plus.
We have been so happy with the care that Bacardi has received at Stanwood that we are very much looking forward to how Ruffi blossoms. Despite all the best attempts by Sarah to keep Ruffi’s weight up and anxiety down, with the limitations at the farm where she was, it was becoming a massive uphill battle. Thankfully with Sarah coming out weekly for lessons for me and Bacardi, she still gets to see her favorite spicy mare and they get to continue their relationship. I know that Sarah misses her Ruffles very much, but understands the need for the change for Ruffi. Also, once the vet has cleared Ruffi for full turnout and work, she will return to weekly training with Sarah.
In the Bacardi sphere of it all, I cannot say enough. Weekly lessons have helped us immensely. He is working on the bit, we are working on our connection and straightness under saddle and have been working to find a bit he is happy with. I feel that we have finally found the secret sauce for my big boy! I am so thrilled and feel like we have been doing so well!
Happy Riding + Rehabbing,
A + B + R
