Hey all, I am sorry I have been MIA here on the blog lately. The last month and a half have just been INSANE.
First of all, Bacardi’s move went great and he is settling in very well to his new home. We have been there about 3 weeks and have been able to ride all over with no issues.
Second, Ruffi was ultrasounded and she is NOT in foal. I advised the stallion owner so that she could work that out with Ruffi’s previous home. We also moved her on Monday to a barn closer to home and not in the opposite direction of Bacardi. She was out on pasture From day 3 to day 45. She was fed 2-3 flakes of alfalfa daily and a scoop or 2 of Haystack Special Blend. She has not needed an extensive refeeding program. In fact, Dr. Renner was very specific in ensuring we did not overfeed her because of her issues with weight in the past and being too heavy.
This has been a hell of a journey so far and it’s only just getting started. Below are pictures showing Ruffi’s progress from her return home to yesterday. I will continue to document her progress as we start bringing her fitness back to where it was.
At this point, her color is darkening up. Her weight is healthy. We are going to start with some groundwork get a chiro out and some bodywork and then go from there. I would LOVE to take her for a dressage debut in the spring of 2025. Take it SUPER slow with her and just enjoy the process.
I am just so saddened by how this poor soul was maligned and treated and it makes me incredibly sad that I put her in that position. The whole situation was just so bad. I was told she kicks, bites, is aggressive and doesn’t trailer. She was hobbled to be trailered. The crazy thing is she has been trailered three times since we purchased her back and had NO issues kicking. She has been turned out alone, with other mares and with a gelding, and no aggression. I just don’t understand how this was the picture that was painted of this amazing horse. People were told on her ad on FB that it was unknown if she could be ridden, but she has pictures with kids on her. The seller knew for a fact I had ridden her for the better part of two years. I informed people who asked that she has 90 days under saddle at 3 years old. That I had ridden her. It was not disclosed that she has kissing spines (for which I sent the seller the x-rays).
So make of this information what you will, but I will say it took about 45 days to get her healthy…. thats it. 45 days. Of just good food, love and some attention.
So glad my baby is home and thriving and here is to more progress!
