Team WDT

Bacardi

JC Name: White River Pirate

Matty G x Party Pirate (Pirate’s Bounty)

DOB: 4/16/2010

Stats: 34 Starts • 2-4-4

Bio: Bacardi was born in WA State at Blue Ribbon Farm. He started racing at 2 years old and was owned and trained by Alan Bozell until Jan 2015 when he came off the track. He ran primarily at Emerald Downs and occasionally Portland Meadows after the EMD season ended.

While occasionally displaying a coltish personality, Bacardi is as honest as horses come. He is sweet and affectionate and always looking for a cookie or peppermint. He is reliable under saddle and is always willing to give something a try.

Ruffi

JC Name : Hearsay

Parker’s Storm Cat x Celtic Sunset (St. Jovite)

DOB: 04/23/2011

Unraced

Bio: Ruffi was born on Windway Farm and originally was meant to be a racehorse, however circumstances of life did not allow that to happen. Ruffi was gifted to us at WDT in Sept of 2020. Due to our own life circumstances, she was sold in Sept of 2022, but was reunited with us in July of 2023. We have missed her immensely are beyond happy to have her home.

Ruffi if discerning about choosing her people. Her dad, Preston, is her favorite human. She enjoys standing in the crossties and getting groomed and pampered and if you catch her on a good day, you will find her also begging for cookies or treats of any sort.

Ashley

Rider and mother of the brain baby that is WDT. She ( I ) has been riding since she was around 8-9 years old. Initially a horse crazy young girl, she went off to horse camp for 5 summers in a row and though her teenage years volunteered for any ride time she could get. During her senior year she started her formal riding education with Saacha DeAmborosio at Above and Beyond Equestrian Sports. At 21 she took a 6 year hiatus and returned to the saddle with Bre Cooper at Apex Equestrian.

She is fascinated with TB bloodlines and could rattle on about them all day long. Thoroughbreds from conception to end of life are her passion and you may very well find her listening and watching yearling sales in the late summer and fall to keep a pulse on popular bloodlines.

Ashley is a Seattle native and much like her horses has spent her entire life living in WA. In addition to horses she also enjoys pole dancing and when she gets the chance loves to swim with her pod Merfolk of Seattle. You might also find her on a quiet evening at home embroidering while listening to an audiobook.

Preston

The designated horse whisperer/groom/loyal horse husband of WDT, Preston hails from Southern Las Vegas. After meeting Ashley, Preston was introduced to the world of horses and thoroughbreds. He was introduced to the racetrack early on in their relationship and took a shine to the statistics and number analyzation of the racing industry.

While not an avid rider, he has been known to get on either of the WDT horses and ride around in an arena and can handle himself on a leisurely trail ride.

In addition to spending time at the barn, you will find Preston at his computer either engaging with his online community and playing PC games or programing.

Care Team

At WDT we have curated an amazing care team to support us in keeping equines in the best condition possible. We carefully review and consult trusted friends and equine professionals regarding, care, nutrition, training and health.

We would not be where we are without our wonderful veterinary team either. Rainland Farm is a local leader in veterinary medicine and is on call at many large farms in our area. Dr. Renner has diligently advised and provided care for Bacardi + Ruffi, including the time when Bacardi decided to come up with a very large seroma on his left stifle. We love our vet and their entire staff and would be remiss without them.

In addition to our vet, we have a team of dedicated equine professionals that include our farrier(Gold Equine Services), body worker (Sound Equine Therapy), and saddle fitter (Anja’s Saddlery) who all work to keep our horses as healthy as possible and feeling 100%.  Our host of equine inclined friends are always happy to give advice and feedback regarding feeding, training, saddle fit, or just to talk us down when we decide we want to send the horses to the glue factory. We would not be anywhere without those friends and they too have a special place at Winter Dance Thoroughbreds.
